Too prominent
Catholic churches - St.
Michael's Cathedral in Toronto and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New
York - reportedly rejected a sculpture of Jesus
the Homeless by
Timothy Schmalz- what a shame!
Matthew 21:12. "And
Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and
bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and
the seats of them that sold doves,"
Christmas."An ungodly
number of people went homeless in Toronto -
Canada's financial capital - around Christmas
1995. While temperatures dipped below -20º C, many freewilled beggars had
no place to stay but in sleeping bags on sidewalks, -
ironically, not too far from automatic banking machines! A few froze to
death. Now, let the Nobel Prize winners tell the unemployed, the wandering
poor, the homeless hungry beggar about the benefits of the marketplace
- and of globalization."

"Sir William Petty, in his calculations, supposes that a man in England is worth what he

only with respect to England. There are countries where a man is worth
nothing; there are others where he is worthless
than nothing" [emphasis added].
Pride Toronto Parade 2010
(30th anniversary), July 4, 2010.
Over a million people participated in the Pride Toronto Parade
2010 (30th anniversary), July 4, 2010. While
for many, pride is equated with
tourism, it is essentially political (freedom of expression,
freedom of speech, freedom of being, equity, etc.). There was
a strong pro-Israel, pro-Zionism contingent in Pride 2010. But
the pro-Palestine, anti-Zionism, anti-apartheid contingent had
the definite edge. The contingent included Queers Against
Israeli Apartheid (QuAIA), which were initially banned, and
Not in Our Name (NION), "Jewish voices opposing Zionism."
Liberals, the Green party, and the New Democratic Party (NDP),
all had floats.

3, 2011. More than a million people participated in the Pride Toronto Parade
2011, July
3, 2011. While
for many, pride is equated with
entertainment and tourism, it is essentially
a political affair (freedom of expression,
freedom of speech, freedom of being, equity, etc.);
it is also a test of tolerance of "diversity" and of "others." Many
political parties were represented: the Green party,
the Liberal party, and the New Democratic Party (NDP).
Diversity included "Proud to be
Jewish and Queer," Iranian Railroad for Queer Refugees (IRQR), and Latino
groups.
